Who Am I? Why Pilot?
We are not doing research for research’s sake. We have a definite, decidedly practical goal─ Fire research is therefore intended to serve as directly as possible the fire-control men who must first be successful before any of the other arts or artists of forestry can function with safety." —Harry T. Gisborne, 1942
Hello! My name is Cole Saunders I am a Senior enrolled at U-32 in the Pilot Program. My primary Interests stem around forestry and wildland fire science/management. I first really got into this when I went out west for the first time and drove through a massive burn scar in the Grand Tetons (poorly pictured bellow) I chose pilot as a way to learn as much as could about he science behind wildfires and how they burn Inspired by the Montpelier native Harry Gisborne who pioneered wildland fire science into a practical science of balancing ecology and math directly benefiting the managers who dedicate there lives to the art of the trade. As I embarked on my learning journey I tried to maintaint hat practicality in mind. For every aspect of fire behavior and ecology that I learned I ask my self what is can do on a practical level.
